When traveling to a new destination one of the first things on my to-do list is ensuring that I have a place to stay. A comfortable clean space to lay my head whether it’s a resort, an airbnb or even a friend’s spare bedroom. Harbour Island has various styles of accommodations and one by one my goal is to experience them all for you-my fellow travellers- so that you’ll know before you go!
This week The Landing invited me to experience one of their rooms for a night and I was thrilled. It is a Bahamian owned-family ran resort-located at the entrance of Harbour Island in walking distance to the government dock. I’ve always admired their vibe as it’s easy going with the perfect pinch of structure at the same time. As I checked in at their main building I was greeted with the scent of eucalyptus which immediately made me feel relaxed as my mummy always kept eucalyptus in the common areas of our home growing up. Tina checked me in and walked me over to my cottage.
I had no idea that The Landing is as vast as it is! The entire property holds four buildings with their respective rooms. There is a pool that goes up to 6ft just behind the main building lined with pool chairs for their guests. The month of November is the beginning of The Bahamian Winter in my head so the island girl in me could only put her toes in. Later that afternoon I enjoyed a bottle of Rose’ poolside with my friend to start the perfect evening.
I stayed in The Jacaranda room which is its’ own stand alone villa with an outdoor shower just outside the bedroom. There is an outdoor porch with hanging foliage keeping you out of site from everything around you. I immediately knew that I wanted to begin my morning on that porch with some solo meditation to plan my day. Inside the villa I was greeted by a massive King bed that I immediately leaped into once Tina left lol. I know I’m not the only one that does this! That bed was heavenly! The bed-frame had four post, the mattress was soft yet firm, there were pillows upon pillows and it was made with the cleanest white sheets. There’s something about an all white bed that makes me feel like royalty. I love that feeling!
The bathroom has a free-standing bathtub which was the highlight of my experience! I don’t know why I didn’t see bath tubs in this light as a child. As an adult I find myself obsessed with them. I find them to be extremely satisfying both aesthetically and physically. The sound of the water running from the oversized faucet with the Cold Heart PNAU remix playing in the background on my bluetooth speaker-the life!
The Landing serves breakfast and dinner giving you the option to either start or end your day with them; no in between. Their breakfast menu is rich in flavour awakening every tastebud! I highly recommend the Avocado-Cucumber Sourdough Toast and the Ricotta Hotcakes-you will not be disappointed!
