Many people start and end their trip in Nassau, but The Bahamas has so many other islands to explore, and one of them is Eleuthera. Here are four natural wonders at the top of my list of things to do in Eleuthera.
1. The Glass Window Bridge

The Glass Window Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks on the island. In fact, it’s one of the few places on earth where you can compare two very different waters side by side. On one side, you’ll see the raging blue Atlantic Ocean. On the other, you’ll see the calm, bright turquoise waters of the Bight of Eleuthera. Only a strip of rock about 30 feet wide separates them!
2. Queen’s Bath

Just south of the Glass Window Bridge on the Atlantic side, Queen’s Bath (also called the Hot Tubs) is a set of natural tide pools carved into the rock by the waves. The sun warms the clear water to about bath temperature, so it’s the perfect spot for a soak. Go at low or medium tide, and wear water shoes or sneakers because the rocks are sharp.
3. The Sapphire Hole

The Sapphire Hole is another unique attraction on the island and a crowd favourite for a dive. It’s a natural pool in the centre of a large limestone cave. The clear, sapphire-coloured water is surrounded by lush greenery. It feels so refreshing, and some say it even has healing powers. There aren’t any fish, but you may spot a few shrimp and tiny crabs.
Yes, you can jump in! Just know it’s only for strong swimmers with good upper-body strength. The Sapphire Hole is a natural attraction, so getting out takes a bit of rock climbing.
4. Preachers Cave

Preachers Cave is a natural cave on the north shore of Eleuthera. William Sayle and a group of Christians seeking religious freedom from Bermuda found it after their ship wrecked on a reef called the Devil’s Backbone. Today, they’re known as “The Eleutheran Adventurers.” After coming ashore, they took refuge in the cave and shaped an altar from a large boulder at the far end, which remarkably still stands. Then they held the island’s first religious service there, which is how the cave got its name.
How to get to Eleuthera and get around
The easiest way to get to Eleuthera is by air. There are several airports on the island, including North Eleuthera Airport, Governor’s Harbour Airport and Rock Sound Airport.
Once you land, the best way to see these spots is to rent a car or arrange a guided tour.
Staying on Harbour Island? Eleuthera is just a short water taxi ride away, so these things to do in Eleuthera make a great day trip while you’re in town. New to Briland? Here’s how to get to Harbour Island.
Want a guided tour? Whether you’re coming from Nassau or Harbour Island, I can arrange your Eleuthera day trip, from a quick call to a full custom itinerary. See how my trip planning works.
