The Glass Window Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks on the island. In fact, it’s one of the few places on earth where you can compare two very different waters side by side. On one side, you’ll see the raging blue Atlantic Ocean. On the other, you’ll see the calm, bright turquoise waters of the Bight of Eleuthera. Only a strip of rock about 30 feet wide separates them!
The Sapphire Hole is another unique attraction on the island and a crowd favourite for a dive. It’s a natural pool in the centre of a large limestone cave. The clear, sapphire-coloured water is surrounded by lush greenery. It feels so refreshing, and some say it even has healing powers.
The Sapphire Hole is the perfect spot for a dive or three. There aren’t any fish in the water, but you may see a few shrimp and tiny crabs.
Preachers Cave is another must-see attraction on the island. This natural cave sits on the north shore of Eleuthera. William Sayle and a group of Christians seeking religious freedom from Bermuda found it after their ship wrecked on a reef called the Devil’s Backbone. Today, they’re known as “The Eleutheran Adventurers.” After coming ashore, they took refuge in the cave and shaped an altar from a large boulder at the far end, which remarkably still stands. Then they held the island’s first religious service there, which is how the cave got its name.
The easiest way to get to Eleuthera is by air. There are several airports on the island, including North Eleuthera Airport, Governor’s Harbour Airport, and Rock Sound Airport.
Once you’ve arrived, you can explore the attractions by car or even by boat. Since there are several car rental companies on the island, it’s easy to rent a car and get around.
