A night in the Jacaranda at The Landing

When I travel somewhere new, one of the first things on my to-do list is finding a place to stay. I want a comfortable, clean space to lay my head, whether it’s a resort, an Airbnb or even a friend’s spare bedroom. Harbour Island has all kinds of accommodations, and one by one, my goal is to experience them all for you, my fellow travellers, so you’ll know before you go! This time, it’s The Landing on Harbour Island.

This week, The Landing invited me to experience one of their rooms for a night, and I was thrilled. It’s a Bahamian-owned, family-run resort at the entrance of Harbour Island, within walking distance of the government dock. I’ve always admired their vibe, because it’s easy-going with the perfect pinch of structure. As I checked in at the main building, the scent of eucalyptus greeted me. Instantly, I felt relaxed, since my mummy always kept eucalyptus in the common areas of our home growing up. Then Tina checked me in and walked me over to my cottage.

Exploring The Landing on Harbour Island

I had no idea The Landing was so big! The property has four buildings, each with its own rooms. Just behind the main building, there’s a pool up to 6ft deep, lined with pool chairs for guests. In my head, November is the start of the Bahamian winter, so the island girl in me only put her toes in. Later that afternoon, I enjoyed a bottle of rosé poolside with my friend to start the perfect evening.

Inside the Jacaranda Villa

I stayed in the Jacaranda room, a stand-alone villa with an outdoor shower just outside the bedroom. There’s also an outdoor porch with hanging foliage that keeps you out of sight from everything around you. Right away, I knew I wanted to start my morning on that porch with some solo meditation to plan my day. Inside the villa, a massive king bed was waiting, and I leaped into it as soon as Tina left, lol. I know I’m not the only one who does this! That bed was heavenly. It had four posts, a mattress that was soft yet firm, pillows upon pillows and the cleanest white sheets. Somehow, an all-white bed makes me feel like royalty. I love that feeling!

The bathroom has a free-standing bathtub, which was the highlight of my stay! As a child, I never saw bathtubs in this light. As an adult, though, I’m obsessed with them. I find them extremely satisfying, both aesthetically and physically. Picture the water running from the oversized faucet while the Cold Heart PNAU remix plays on my Bluetooth speaker. The life!

Breakfast at The Landing

The Landing serves breakfast and dinner, so you can start or end your day with them, but there’s no lunch in between. Their breakfast menu is rich in flavour and wakes up every tastebud! I highly recommend the Avocado-Cucumber Sourdough Toast and the Ricotta Hotcakes. You won’t be disappointed!
