I’ve been going to Bali every year since my first trip in 2023, and one of the most common questions I get is about the Bali visa requirements. First things first: Bali is an island in the country of Indonesia, so the visa you need is an Indonesian visa, and the rules depend on the passport you hold. I’ll walk you through the options, share my own experience applying as a Bahamian citizen, and cover everything you need to do before you land.

Which Bali Visa Do You Need?

Start by Checking Your Passport

Before anything else, check your country’s requirements on the official Indonesian immigration website: evisa.imigrasi.go.id. That tells you exactly which visa applies to you.

The Main Options for Tourists

• Visa on Arrival (VoA) or e-VoA: Many nationalities can get this at the airport or apply online before they fly. It allows a 30-day stay and can be extended once, for 60 days in total. Applying online lets you skip the visa line on arrival.
• Visit Visa C1 : Travellers whose passports aren’t eligible for a visa on arrival must apply for this before they travel. It allows a 60-day stay.
• Visa-free entry: A small number of nationalities, mostly Southeast Asian countries, can enter without a visa for a short stay.

My Experience as a Bahamian Citizen

Bahamian passport holders aren’t eligible for a visa on arrival, so I apply for the Visit Visa C1 before every trip.

Bali Visa Requirements: What I Needed to Apply

• Proof of at least $2,000 USD in my bank account
• The ID page of my passport
• A selfie or passport photo

What It Cost Me

My C1 visa through Bali Zero usually costs $120–$140 USD, depending on the exchange rate at the time. A visa on arrival costs less, so check which one applies to you.

How to Pay (and Save on Fees)

• Wire transfer: This cost me almost $100 in fees. Avoid it if you can!
• Wise app: This is the best option I’ve found. Bali Zero doesn’t accept card payments over the phone, so Wise is your friend.
• PayPal: It works, but it’s pricey too.
• Pay on arrival: Ask whether this is an option for you. It was for me!

Before You Land in Bali

Complete Your All Indonesia Arrival Card

Within 24 hours before you land, fill out your arrival card at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id. It’s free, it covers your immigration, customs, and health declarations in one form, and it makes exiting the airport faster.

Other Things to Have Ready

• A passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date
• A return or onward ticket
